Founder & Chairman

Dr. Albert Li is the founder and chairman of First Asia. Having worked in the banking and finance field for more than twenty-five years, Dr. Li poses extensive experience in investment banking, fund management, venture capital financing and risk management, particularly in managing the listing process of Hong Kong and PRC companies. During 1983-1986, Dr. Li managed the Treasury Department of the Royal Hong Kong Jockey club and supervised the daily investment activities of a number of portfolios amounting to US$1.5 billion.

Prior to founding First Asia, he had been a finance director of Carlingford Swire Assurance Group (recently known as HSBC Life (International) Limited) and an associate director of HSBC Asset Management (Asia Pacific) Limited where he was in charge of eight principal departments across Asia Pacific region including Derivatives Risk Monitoring Department, Cash Management Department, Unit Trust Department, Security Department and Treasury Department. The funds under management were approximately US$23.6 billion.

Dr. Li holds a Master’s in Business Management specializing in New Venture Management from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine; Master’s in Finance from IE Business School; LLM in Economic Law from Zhongshan University of the PRC; Postgraduate Diploma in Finance from Said Business School, Oxford University; and PhD from Peking University specializing in International Finance Law.

Dr. Li holds professional qualifications including Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ACA); Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK (FCMA), Member of Chartered Global Management Accountant, USA (CGMA); Fellow Member of the Hong Kong Institute of CPAs (FHKICPA). He was also awarded the Diploma in Corporate Finance and a Corporate Finance designation (CF).
